Chronic pain is extremely wide spread, especially among the older population. Back pain, joint pain, headaches, these are just a few of the medical conditions many people and myself have successfully treated with kratom.
Kratom is a plant from Southeast Asia known for relieving pain. Red strains, which contain a high concentration of alkaloids, are responsible for producing the most potent analgesic effect. Strains such as, Red Borneo, Red Hulu, Red Bali, Green Malay, and Red Maeng Da, produce the most intense pain relief.
Don’t spend your valuable time doing too much research or taking the wrong advice from bloggers who’ve never used kratom. I can tell you in this article which strains are the best for pain relief from the research that I’ve done and more importantly, the time I’ve spent experimenting with various strains.
Kratom Strains for Pain Relief
I’ve used a wide variety of strains from all colors. I’ve mixed strains and consumed them in every form you can think of; capsules, tea, toss and wash. When I pinched a nerve in my back, I felt numbing pain all the way down to my feet.
Instead of turning to pharmaceuticals, I went to work on a daily basis doing research and experimenting to find the strains that best relieved my back pain and also benefited me with additional effects.
Some strains were excellent for pain and sleep, making them ideal for use right before bed. Others provided pain relief and slight boosts of energy, therefore, increasing my productivity throughout the day.
Depending on what you’re looking for, the following strains can help you live a normal life free of chronic pain.
Red Borneo originates from the biggest island in Indonesia called Borneo. Like most other red strains, Red Borneo is an excellent strain for relieving pain and reducing anxiety. It also produces a slight euphoria which can help with motivation.
Red Borneo is slightly less potent than Red Bali, which makes it the perfect strain for beginners. Once your kratom tolerance increases you can move up to Red Bali.
I recommend using Red Borneo before going to bed to induce pain relief and sleep.
Red Hulu grows on the banks of the Kapuas River located in the thick forest of Indonesia called Hulu. It’s location makes it more difficult to obtain, which is why fewer vendors sell it.
If you can get ahold of Red Hulu, you’ll notice it produces exceptional pain relief, but unlike other red strains, it’s slightly more energetic and substantially more euphoric. Its analgesic effects coupled with the amazing euphoria makes it ideal to improve productivity.
I recommend using Red Hulu during the daytime in small doses to induce its stimulant effects but still relieve your pain.
Red Bali is the king of Red strains matched only by Red Maeng Da, although many would beg to differ. If you’re looking for the ultimate trio, Red Bali is perfect for you. Red Bali produces potent pain and anxiety relief followed by a strong sedative effect.
However, for being an incredibly potent strain, Red Bali produces only a moderate euphoria similar to Red Borneo. If you suffer from intense chronic pain, I would highly recommend using Red Bali right before going to sleep.
Red Maeng Da
Red Maeng Da is one of the most potent strains on the market. The name Maeng Da means “pimp grade” in Thai. I’m dead serious. Maeng Da is a hybrid strain intentionally created to the most potent strain available, and many would argue its creators achieved their goal.
Due to its high alkaloid concentration, Red Maeng Da is very effective for pain and anxiety relief while also producing amazing euphorias. Unlike other red strains, it’s slightly energetic, so don’t use it right before bed, especially if you’re taking small doses.
I recommend using Red Maeng Da in the afternoon to relax and relieve pain.
Green Malay is one of my favorite strains. Green strains are a blend of red and white, therefore, allowing them to produce the best of both worlds. Green Malay is the perfect example.
Originating from the jungles of Malaysia, Green Malay is one of the best all-around strains on the market. It provides potent pain and anxiety relief, strong euphorias, and great energy boosts. This was my strain of choice to use in the mornings to get the day started and reduce my pain.
If you need to boost your energy or reduce anxiety while relieving pain I recommend using Green Malay anytime during the day.
Kratom Dose for Pain
Kratom is unique because of how dose size directly influences the effects. Smaller doses tend to be more stimulant while bigger doses are more sedative. Pain relief, however, is less complex.
For pain relief, the larger the dose the more pain relief you’ll experience. The key is finding the right dose for you. Many sites recommend universal doses for everyone, but that isn’t entirely accurate.
Factors such as the following are known to affect your dose size:
- Food in your system
The best way to find your perfect dose is to experiment.
Use the following table to find your recommended starting dose. Then, add a gram everyday to your recommended dose until you obtain your desired pain relief. Don’t use kratom twice in the same day while experimenting.
|Weight in Pounds||100||125||150||175||≥200|
|Dose in Grams||1||1.5||2||2.5||3|
If you already have a kratom tolerance, you may need to use more than what is recommended on the table.
How Kratom Works to Relieve Pain
Its alkaloids, Mitragynine and 7-Hydroximtragynine, bind to the mu-opioid receptors in the brain and therefore, produce opioid-like effects. Kratom, in essence, is a natural opioid.
I was able eliminate pain in my back and lower part of my body caused by a pinched nerve. However, thousands of people have reported successfully using the kratom strains mentioned above to also treat painful medical conditions such as:
- headaches / migraines
- multiple sclerosis
- muscle aches
- irritable bowel syndrome
- Complex regional pain syndrome
- Ehlers Danlos syndrome
- Reflex sympathetic syndrome
Many diseases and medical conditions stem from inflammation, which is why kratom, with its anti-inflammatory properties, helps to reduce pain.
