Much of the world’s best kratom comes from Indonesia, and the Southeast Asian country is home to another winner in Sumatra. This strain, found in the island it’s named after, is renowned for its relaxation, and giving users physical calm and peace of mind.
We’ve got lots to tell you about kratom in general, our Sumatra offerings, and tips for getting more from your kratom powder. And if kratom is all new to you, don’t miss the FAQ section!
An introduction to kratom
Kratom (mitragyna speciosa) is new to the United States and the Western world, but has been enjoyed in eastern Asia for centuries, if not millennia. Among laborers, invigorating white vein strains rule the roost.
For those wanting relief from pain, Red strains with opiate-like qualities have proven popular. Believe it or not, kratom is a member of the coffee family. This is easier to believe with stimulating White strains than calming Reds!
Kratom is also teeming with alkaloids, such as mitragynine, 7-OH-mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine. Our scientific understanding of these is a little limited, although a few studies hint toward possible therapeutic properties.
What is certain is that kratom’s unique effects are derived from compounds like these.
What is Sumatra kratom?
Sumatra describes a strain of kratom hailing from Indonesia. In contrast to other kratoms, this strain has a reputation for calming effects. This is more obvious with the Red than the Yellow, thanks to the classic soothing properties of Red strains.
As hinted, this Red takes kratom relaxation to a new level. The rich alkaloid content is surely paramount to the delightful calm that takes over from head to toe. This Red strain also helps loosen the mind, freeing you from the shackles of stress and agonies of anxiety.
Since Red Sumatra will relax you, we recommend saving it for when you can enjoy it most – in the evenings, when your work is done! The physical effects are probably too sedating to make this strain a viable daytime kratom.
Sometimes known as “Sleepy Hippo”, this yellow-veined strain is also all about relaxation, but in an extended fashion. Yellow – or Gold – kratoms typically hit more gradually, but last for longer than other strains.
This works a treat with Yellow Sumatra, as it extends your chill-out sessions. These lasting effects also make this Yellow strain a good candidate for sleep.
Kratom’s all-round soothing properties have been linked to improve sleep, and what better way to get it than with a strain that lasts for many hours?
How to take Sumatra kratom powder
You can do a few things with kratom powder, hence why it’s such a fantastic kratom product. If you prefer authentic consumption, kratom tea springs to mind.
We don’t have the leaves, but the powder allows for an instant version! Brew it like a cup of coffee, and stir in some sugar so you aren’t overwhelmed by bitter kratom!
Does kratom relieve pain?
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has not approved kratom for any medical use. The approval process of any new drugs is expensive and time-consuming. Kratom research is still in its infancy, and we simply can’t say with any certainty what the plant or its compounds does.
However, a smattering of studies and anecdotal evidence suggests some kratom users are finding it a natural analgesic. Studies show that mitragynine is a mu-opioid receptor agonist, which hints at a possible pain-killing effect. Researchers definitely have avenues to explore.
Does Sumatra kratom reduce inflammation?
There is no evidence that Sumatra or any other kratom strains are effective as anti-inflammatories. Again, without clinical research, we simply cannot make such claims.
However, current research does propose a potential anti-inflammatory effect for mitragynine. Other alkaloids may have a similar effect.
Will Sumatra kratom help me sleep?
Red and Yellow Sumatra strains are both suited to a good night’s sleep. The relaxing effects are great for the body, as the muscles are relaxed and any tension is dissolved.
For the mind, these strains may alleviate anxious thoughts and squash stress. Relieving physical discomfort is also key to great sleep. It’s feasible that all these qualities combine to make kratom a useful sleep remedy.
Will Sumatra kratom make me tired?
From what we know about Sumatra strains, they probably will make you pretty tired. The relaxing effects are potent with both Red and Yellow strains, although the former produces a more instant hit.
But if you want a strain that will give you some get up and go, our Sumatra offerings probably aren’t much use. But we do have a variety of White and Green vein kratoms available from our other strains. Be sure to check them out!
Is Sumatra kratom safe?
Sumatra kratom carries the same risks as any other type of kratom. Abusing kratom by taking huge doses has the potential to cause overdose, breathing difficulties, seizures and death.
However, these incidents are very rare and most kratom users are responsible. Kratom may also cause addiction, because of how it influences the opioid system. Due to the nature of kratom’s alkaloids, the risks aren’t as severe as an opioid addiction – and some even use kratom to tackle an opioid addiction!
But if you do get addicted to kratom, you’ll likely experience withdrawal symptoms – such as anxiety, anger, hot flashes and muscle spasms – if you try to quit.
Kratom has some more common and relatively less threatening side effects, like dry mouth, tongue numbness, drowsiness, constipation, nausea and vomiting, and thyroid problems.
The kratom plant is most popular in the United States for having relaxing effects, and Sumatra really goes the extra mile. The soothing sensations allow anyone to find peace and tranquility, and experience all-round wellness.
Both the Red and Yellow strains promote physical and mental calm, and produce consistent effects.
